Vanessa Kirby lands leading role in high-stakes sci-fi thriller
Vanessa Kirby and Lewis Pullman will star in The Spacesuit, with Kitty Green directing. Furthermore, HanWay Films is handling sales ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, adding industry credibility and confirming this is an active project heading into the market.
The film revolves around an astronaut who must make a high-stakes decision after an incident with her co-pilot jeopardizes the mission in the days leading up to liftoff. Vanessa Kirby will likely play the central astronaut, continuing her run of intense, character-led roles, with Pullman playing the co-pilot who is expected to trigger the central conflict. The film is being produced by James Schamus and Scott Macaulay, with Kirby also serving as an executive producer.
“We are thrilled to be working with Kitty Green again, whose genius is to take on utterly relatable situations women face, give them true cinematic canvases, and imbue them with unbearable tension to provoke bigger conversations and entertain,” Gabrielle Stewart stated.
Kitty Green, known for films like The Assistant and The Royal Hotel, engages in slow-burning storytelling that dissects power dynamics and morally grey situations. The project is still in an early development stage, and no release date has been set yet. As per media reports, the shooting details of the film are yet to be confirmed.
Making her foray into Marvel with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Kirby has already attached herself to projects like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, further cementing her status as a global star. Meanwhile, Lewis Pullman made his MCU debut as Robert “Bob” Reynolds, aka Sentry, in Thunderbolts and is set to reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, alongside starring in the drama Remarkably Bright Creatures, which is scheduled to release in May this year.
