Here's everything I didn't like in the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer.

Avengers: Doomsday has created a whole lot of hype ever since it was announced. Its trailer was showcased at the recent CinemaCon, and it garnered mixed reactions. While most fans appreciated the elements shown in the teaser, it does have its fair share of cons, and here are 5 things I didn’t like about the trailer.

1. Thor gets nerfed (again)

Thor, at this rate, has become a joke in the Marvel movies, and I’m convinced that the character is being nerfed even in the trailer itself. With Victor Von Doom swishing away Thor with his two fingers, it makes the character look like a mosquito being squashed. What this does is also reduce the credibility of Thor being one of the strongest characters in Marvel. The voiceover narration and theatrics are pretty good, but plot-wise, it isn’t doing much.

2. Victor Von Doom as an overpowered character

Victor Von Doom is to Avengers: Doomsday what Imu is to One Piece: overpowered, nefarious, and notoriously strong. The trailer also revealed that the only way to defeat Doom is if all the superheroes unite. The trailer does little to showcase the unity and instead makes it a two-man show with both Captain America and Thor being outmaneuvered by Doom.

Doom’s sudden rise to power is something that makes absolutely no sense, and it feels like a retcon with added plot armor in this case. There’s no fleshing out of the character’s story within the movie; maybe that’s why it all feels disjointed and more convoluted, per se.

3. Belova vs Belova

Mystique impersonates Belova, which reminds me of the famous Spiderman vs Spiderman meme. Here, the exception is that it is Belova versus Belova, which means nothing has changed, really, except for the usual rinse and repeat strategy. Belova will likely undergo a head game with how Mystique is treading. She can impersonate anyone, and it is likely that at one point she would impersonate Natasha, and this is where it gets messy!

4. Fantastic Four, where?

We got Avengers, we got Doctor Doom, and the trailer shows a brief moment of Fantastic Four meeting the superheroes. Now you may ask, what’s not to like about it? Well, the Fantastic Four aren’t mere sidepieces but one of the cult-popular heroes in the MCU. To be sidelined is probably the worst thing that can be done, and so far, the trailer has not teased any fights or their active role.

5. Avengers without the actual Avengers

The Avengers feel incomplete and lackluster without the original Avengers. While Iron Man and Black Widow died in Endgame, Hawkeye, Wanda, and Valkyrie remain absent in the teaser. The trailer revolves heavily around Thor, Captain America, and X-Men, but what adds to the chaos are additional battles, which seem banal at this point.

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer seems lackluster with whatever we know so far. While these are the things I didn’t like, I was overjoyed at Thor and Captain America’s reunion, Shuri’s reappearance as Black Panther, and Robert Downey Jr’s new villain arc.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on 18th December 2026.
