Avengers: Doomsday is all set to bring back the stellar cast. The movie has everyone on the edge of their seats, but that’s not it. Robert Downey Jr.’s role in the upcoming movie has everyone stoked up, and here’s what Kevin Feige said about the actor’s return.
Kevin Feige on Robert Downey Jr’s return to Doomsday
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, spoke to Fandango about bringing back Robert Downey Jr to the MCU’s Doomsday. He said:
“Ever since Endgame, we would see each other quite a lot. And it was unspoken for a long time… And years went by, and we started thinking of this way to do it. And it was early 2023 that we started saying, ‘We actually think this could really work.’ And then I went to his abode and pitched him this idea. He was very excited about it.”
It has been almost 7 years since the actor returned to the Avengers movie, and that too in a completely different role. He is set to star in the movie as Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom.
Downey’s performance in Endgame is nothing short of brilliant. The movie gave a closure and a tearjerker farewell to Marvel fans’ beloved character, Tony Stark, as he sacrificed himself.
Ever since the news broke out that the actor would play Doctor Doom, there have been several fan speculations drawing possible theories of soul swap, and while it is possible, the theories aren’t plausible, and the actor even debunked and dismissed them eventually.
Doom originates from Earth 828, the same universe where Fantastic Four takes place. He plans on ruling the multiverses that are now colliding by acting as the final saviour.
What it means for humanity is that the entire timelines would shift, leading to destruction, and there’s only one way to stop it: by working together and foiling Doom’s end goal to act as the higher power.
While it is interesting to see Downey as Doctor Doom, it would be even more fascinating to witness how the movie would flesh out the character’s origins and his rise to villainy.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on 18th December 2026.
