The familiar world of dangerous and predatory dinosaurs, started by Steven Spielberg, was revisited for the seventh time last year through Jurassic World: Rebirth. A resounding commercial success, the film garnered around $869 million worldwide, making three to four times its budget. Naturally, rumors were swirling about the next installment of the Scarlett Johansson-led film. Now, as per an industry insider, there are new developments regarding the possible sequel that might interest the fans.
Filming for Jurassic World: Rebirth sequel rumored to begin this fall
A known industry scooper on social media, Daniel RPK, reported that a sequel to Jurassic World: Rebirth is scheduled to begin filming this fall. Furthermore, Scarlett Johansson is expected to return as the lead.
Daniel RPK’s report builds on the previous rumors that exist about the sequel. In November 2025, industry insider Jeff Sneider reported in his newsletter that the cast of Rebirth is expected to return to their characters in the next installment of the franchise. Furthermore, he highlighted that the director of Rebirth, Gareth Edwards, was in the “final negotiation” phase to continue the franchise’s fresh storyline.
Rebirth did well commercially to support the idea of continuing the story.
Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett, will be carrying forward the narrative arc of the reboot, marking an end to the Chris Pratt era. The producer Frank Marshall highlighted that there is “plenty of room” for further world-building at the Collider Question and Answer session.
Edwards has been quite cryptic about the sequel, noting in several interviews that Rebirth was a standalone film, with no formal discussions having taken place for another installment. At the same time, he did not completely dismiss the idea, telling ScreenRant, “Maybe there’s something in there.”
Talking to Collider previously, he stated that there is stuff that “[he wanted to] see personally.” Clearly, there are certain untapped storylines in his head that he could bring to fruition.
As things stand, audiences should take the recent developments with a pinch of salt and wait for an official announcement before getting their hopes up.
