The latest piece featuring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in Interview Magazine is being called the ‘Twin Titans‘ piece, not only because of the two actors’ combined box office draw but also because of the juxtaposition of controlled precision and beautiful chaos that the two represent. Zendaya speaks about Robert Pattinson and her first impression of him in the interview. “Truthfully, I met you because we had common friends, and you were always pretty quiet and chill, which is a little different from my experience of Rob. You don’t say much, and I was like, ‘Ooh, mysterious!’ Then I talked to Tom [Holland], and he was like, ‘No, he’s super fun and always laughing and joking,’ and I was like, ‘Really? I haven’t experienced that side of him, I guess.’”’

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson redefine A-list pairings

The piece is more akin to a caffeine-fueled transcript than a typical interview piece put out by the publication. Zendaya comes across as measured and perceptive, while Pattinson is in full throttle with his signature erratic sense of humor. Perhaps one of the most shared moments comes when Pattinson discusses working with Tom Holland on one of the films they did together. “Tom [Holland] is right; you laugh at everything you say, so it’s very hard to tell when you’re being serious and when you’re not. And then you’ll start a sentence and you’ll say it really fast, and then you’ll stop yourself and go, ‘Never mind.’ And then you’ll always eventually end up saying it, but I have to be like, ‘No, what is it, Rob? What are you thinking?’” Zendaya talks about a habit of Robert Pattinson’s she’s picked up on

Zendaya had thought Pattinson was mysterious and intense, mainly due to his brooding post-The Batman run. However, Holland had warned her that Pattinson was actually a “joker.” Pattinson confesses that he does try to live up to the aura but just can’t maintain it.

In terms of their professional relationship, this interview solidifies what fans have been aware of over the last few months: the two have just wrapped their third film together. The first was The Drama, helmed by Kristoffer Borgli and described as a psychologically unstable romance film. The second was The Odyssey under the direction of Christopher Nolan, while the third was Dune: Part Three under Denis Villeneuve’s direction, in which Zendaya reprised her role as Chani and Pattinson played a major political figure in the Dune universe. The back-to-back nature of these films solidifies their on-screen chemistry as one of the defining duos of the era.

What makes this piece so interesting is that Pattinson discusses being overstimulated and jittery in the Caribbean, while Zendaya nonchalantly reveals that she had been home in London, deep-cleaning her grout lines just before New Year’s Eve, and mentions how Holland had just gotten home and how their dog was excited to see him.
