Hunter x Hunter is one of the most incredible manga in the shonen genre. It is one of the bestsellers by Yoshihiro Togashi, the mastermind behind Yu Yu Hakusho. The mangaka’s magnum opus is in full swing, and he recently credited his wife for making it happen.
Yoshihiro Togashi praises wife for Hunter x Hunter return
Yoshihiro Togashi took to X to credit his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, for ensuring the continuity of his manga. Her encouragement was what led him to keep up with the tedious process of serializing the manga.
He wrote, “I’m receiving tons of motivation to keep going from my wife,” as he posted an illustration on his X account. It showed Kurapika from Hunter x Hunter drawn in a Sailor Moon fashion alongside Sailor Mars and Artemis, who is posing as a maneki neko.
Naoko Takeuchi isn’t just Yoshihiro Togashi’s wife but an esteemed and celebrated mangaka who broke the ironclad rules in storytelling. She is known for her cult classic work, Sailor Moon, which inspired so many manga and anime down the line.
Be it Cardcaptor Sakura or Madoka Magica, the magical girls trope never ceases to amaze viewers and readers to this date. It is also amazing how Takeuchi blends fashion inspiration from the 80s and 90s in her manga.
Togashi carved his niche in shonen anime through two of his most popular series, Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho, which ruled the 90s. His works also inspired several manga, including Masashi Kishimoto’s ninja masterpiece Naruto.
Both Togashi and Takeuchi met in 1997 at a party hosted by Kazushi Hagiwara. They got married in 1999, but their love story was nothing short of dramatic.
Takeuchi even revealed she considered calling off the wedding at one point. However, both mangaka remain a pillar of strength for each other. Takeuchi has always been a fan of Togashi’s work, and likewise, Togashi has supported his wife during hard times.
He also jokingly revealed how the two met in a 2023 interview with Hard Drive, saying, “We were both workaholics when it came to making manga (laughter). We met at a workaholics anonymous meeting, actually.”
Of late, the mangaka worked on Chapter 410 of Hunter x Hunter, which is available for reading on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.
