One Piece isn’t just an anime; it’s an emotion and, most importantly, a global and cultural phenomenon. Its rising popularity is unparalleled, and the sports industry is proof of that. The New York Yankees, in particular, are in the news because of Jazz Chisholm Jr. sporting his unique One Piece gear.
Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. sports One Piece merch
Yankees star Chisholm Jr. sported his cleats that had Luffy printed on them. It’s iconic, legendary, and spot-on considering the sportsman’s love for the anime series. The clip was shared by Netflix Sports on X.
The snippet showed Chisholm Jr. making his stance before knocking the ball. It zoomed in on his cleats that showed Luffy in his iconic goofy expression, along with the statement Jolly Roger logo of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Is this a first for the baseball star? Well, not really because earlier he sported a chain featuring Luffy’s legendary Gear 5 transformation. Talk about commitment! This was during his Spring Training in 2025, where he posed for the camera. The chain has a diamond-crusted pendant of Luffy in his transformation. It is reminiscent of some of the most memorable moments in the One Piece anime. Chisholm Jr. perfectly blended hip-hop and swag all together in that photo, so to speak.
Not just him, but even Reese Alexiades happens to be a superfan of Oda’s series. The baseball player did the famed Franky Pose during a baseball match while catching the ball.
Previously, the LA Dodgers also announced a collaboration with One Piece in July 2025, where they sold exclusive merchandise, including card collectibles. It was a major hit because the collaborators gave out straw hats to more than 50,000 fans attending the stadium that day.
This collaboration also featured Luffy wearing the Dodger’s uniform, as well as other characters in a special animation. But that’s not all there is to it. One Piece and its influence on the sports industry are unrivaled. It continues to inspire and encourage upcoming athletes and sportspersons.
While the collaboration between One Piece, Netflix, and the Yankees isn’t confirmed yet, it would be interesting to see how it would play out!
