The genre of sports comedy has picked up following the resounding success of Ted Lasso on Apple TV, featuring Saturday Night Live star Jason Sudeikis in the titular role. Now, Netflix has announced its own golf comedy-drama starring Will Ferrell. The SNL alum will assume the role of a golfer, and with Ferrell roped in, audiences will be expecting a laugh riot.

Here is all you need to know about The Hawk

The much-anticipated golf comedy series at Netflix, which was previously untitled, now has a name. The streaming giant announced on Wednesday that the golf series featuring Will Ferrell will be named The Hawk. The comedic actor will be playing the role of Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a fictional golf legend.

Ferrell’s character in the series is a fictional golf legend who is struggling during the latter stage of his career. He is not willing to stop, even though his critics — which include his ex-wife and his son—are convinced he is done in the game. Lonnie remains determined to continue despite the criticism and his body breaking down, hoping to win one more major to cement one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the sport.

Netflix also released a first-look teaser, where we see Ferrell’s character wearing a white golf visor with the word “HAWK” written in bold black letters on the front, and he has on a bright pink short-sleeved golf polo shirt. A voiceover introduces the character: “This summer, a legend returns. An icon. A champion. An American hero. His name: Lonnie ‘THE HAWK’ Hawkins.” After showing a shot of him hitting the golf ball, the video ends with Hawkins saying, “That’s me, I am him. That’s who they are talking about. If you were wondering.”

Molly Shannon will play Lonnie’s ex-wife, Stacy, and additional cast members include Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.

The show is being co-created by Ferrell, Ramy Youssef, and Josh Rabinowitz, and will be produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions and T-Street Productions. The show is expected to premiere in mid-2026 on Netflix.

With Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ officially renewed for a fourth season, the pressure is on Ferrell’s golf series to replicate or, in some ways, eclipse the success of the football sports comedy-drama.
