The new ‘Avengers’ don’t start united and that’s exactly why ‘Doomsday’ will hit harder

Their early disunity makes the threat of Doomsday feel bigger, heavier, and far more destructive.

We believe to extinguish the fire Disney has created by delaying Avengers: Doomsday by eight months, making us wait for a whole year. The latest reveal of Sam Wilson’s Avengers lineup is basically an apology to us. Because honestly, it is giving us more layers to discuss, and it’s already changing how all of us view the MCU’s next big chapter.

We have all been guessing for months now, theorizing, and trying to figure out who would actually stand beside Sam now that he is the brand-new Captain America. And during Disney’s big showcase in Italy, Marvel Studios dropped the confirmation we have been waiting for, giving us a first look at the team that will step into the fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Sam Wilson’s team is already breaking expectations

What honestly stood out immediately for all of us is how unexpected this group actually is because we have Sam leading a roster that brings the God of Thunder Thor, his brother Loki, Shang-Chi (finally after all these years), Ant-Man, and Danny Ramirez’s new Falcon into the same unit.

For us, well, it’s the first time we are seeing Sam in a position where he has to command literal gods while still making sure to ground the team with his tactical experience and steady moral compass. (Good luck, Cap)

But if you thought it was all, well, it is not because at the same time, we are also seeing how Marvel split its heroes across different factions, and that separation says a lot about the world they are currently building.

We get to have a better understanding as the Wakandan grouping of Shuri, M’Baku, and Namor is operating independently, while Bucky leads the Thunderbolts, now positioned as a New Avengers-style squad on a separate trajectory (hence, Bucky and Sam are on bad terms).

Doomsday is starting with a fracture

And honestly, all of this suggests that Doomsday won’t open with one unified front but a series of fractured landscapes that slowly converge as Doom’s threat escalates.

It also gives us the space and explains why characters like Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man are missing from the initial reveal, even though we know they are too important to sit out something of this scale.

Their absence feels more like Marvel is hinting to all of the fans that these heroes are dealing with other corners of the multiverse until the main story forces everyone together.

With Doomsday arriving in December 2026, this early reveal gives us a look at how the next big battle will be shaped, and as true Marvel fans, we can already feel the shift toward a new kind of Avengers team.
