Mystery, mayhem, and romance are the perfect way to describe The Apothecary Diaries. It is unlike any seinen series that blends all these elements perfectly. The anime concluded its Season 2, but the movie is still in the works, and here’s what Aoi Yuki had to say about that.
Aoi Yuki spills the beans on The Apothecary Diaries movie
Aoi Yuki, who voices Maomao in Natsu Hyuga’s The Apothecary Diaries anime, praised the upcoming movie. She also shared details as to what fans can expect from the film at a recent TAD event.
“Actually, I already know what kind of story it will be. It is definitely worth showing in theaters. It includes everything that an Apothecary Diaries fan would like to see. There’s a good reason why it was made this way.”
The Apothecary Diaries movie is different from the anime for various reasons. While the anime follows the light novels and manga, Natsu Hyuga, the author, has written a separate story for the movie altogether.
It is, however, occurring in the same universe, and Yuki will reprise her role as Maomao in the movie. Takeo Otsuka will also return to his role as Jinshi for the upcoming movie.
Based on Natsu Hyuga’s novel of the same name, the anime follows the journey of Maomao, the daughter of an exiled eunuch and a former physician at a royal court. She is abducted and brought to the palace, where she starts off as a cleaning maid.
With time, however, she uses her knowledge, analytical skills, and reasoning to solve the mysteries of the court, but that’s not all. She is also a skilled apothecary who masters her craft simultaneously.
Each season puts forth the maliciousness that is present within the court. Be it court ladies, servants, or consorts, there are dangers within the royal palace. Season 2 takes it up a notch by showcasing outer conflicts.
It is unknown what the movie might cover and expand on, but one thing is clear: it will elevate mystery, suspense, and drama to the max!
The Apothecary Diaries movie is slated for release in December 2026.
