The rebooted DC cinematic universe, spearheaded by James Gunn, is set to receive its second installment with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The new DC Universe is off to a great start after the success of Superman, and expectations have been set sky-high for the upcoming projects. As per rumors circulating on the internet, test screenings of Supergirl are reportedly receiving rave reviews.

Supergirl “packs a punch”?

As per a report circulating on X from the account EverythingDCU, Supergirl had a test screening in Irvine, and the reaction was apparently “overwhelmingly positive.” One of the reactions read that the film “packs a punch” with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes without credits.

“This is d— good, bordering on really d— good. That’s all I’ll say and I hope this cut or something close to it gets released. 1h 45m and packs a punch,” the post read.

It is worth noting that there is no way to verify the reaction, so it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, since it is a test screening, the runtime can be adjusted before release.

DC Studios’ Supergirl is being directed by Craig Gillespie, with a screenplay from Ana Nogueira. The film stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. Media reports suggest that the film adapts the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King.

The movie will follow Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, on her “interstellar journey of vengeance and justice” when “an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home,” as per the comic book synopsis. In the comic, the “unlikely companion” is Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who seeks revenge for the murder of her father.

Momoa is set to play the anti-hero Lobo in the upcoming DCU film, marking Momoa’s first appearance in James Gunn’s DC universe, having previously played Aquaman in the DCEU.

The new Supergirl movie will expand on Gunn’s universe and introduce more cosmic DC characters, who could potentially have their own stories and spin-offs. If the film stays true to the comic book, fans can expect alien planets, strange creatures, and a protagonist who is darker and emotionally more complex than Superman, having witnessed the destruction of her planet, Krypton, and the deaths of those close to her.
