The Supergirl promotional campaign is ramping up fast. DC released new stills through Entertainment Weekly on March 30 and dropped a new video clip on March 31 of Lobo on his motorcycle, captioned “It’s not about the destination. It’s about the enemies, friends you make along the way.” The second full trailer is also dropping today, March 31. Jason Momoa‘s Lobo is getting more screen time in the marketing with every passing week, and the reaction has been exactly what DC would have hoped for.

The Look Is Comics Accurate, and Momoa Has Been Waiting for This Role for Years

The new EW images show Momoa on Lobo’s classic motorcycle with a massive smile, holding one handlebar and wearing a grenade as a necklace: chalk white skin, black markings around the eyes, chains on the wrists, and a cigar.

The costume is pulled straight from the comics, and nothing about it has been softened down for a mainstream audience. Director Craig Gillespie has cited The Fifth Element as a key influence on the film’s visual world, which makes a lot of sense when you look at what Lobo looks like on screen.

The casting happened because Momoa wanted it badly enough for long enough that it eventually became inevitable. He texted James Gunn about Lobo on the literal morning it was announced that Gunn and Peter Safran were taking over DC Studios.

Gunn replied, “Dude, I’ve said you should be Lobo for years, no lie.” He had originally thought he was being called about Lobo when DC offered him Aquaman back in 2017. He spent seven years as the King of Atlantis and then finally got the character he actually wanted.

Lobo is not the main villain of Supergirl. That is Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills. Momoa’s role is described as supporting, a colorful presence in a film that is already being called part John Wick, part True Grit with superheroes.

The story follows young Ruthye tracking down Supergirl to avenge her father’s murder, Krypto getting poisoned with three days to live, and Kara being pulled into a revenge mission she did not ask for.

Lobo fits into that world as exactly the kind of chaotic, unpredictable element the story needs.

DC plans to bring Momoa back as Lobo in future DCU projects beyond this film. Supergirl is the introduction. What comes after it has not been confirmed.

Milly Alcock is carrying the film as Kara Zor-El. She had a small role in Superman last year, and this is her full showcase.

Craig Gillespie is directing from Ana Nogueira’s script based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s 2022 comic series. The rest of the cast includes Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters June 26, 2026. The second trailer is out today.
