As we all know, the first film became a huge global success, earning over a billion dollars at the box office and winning over both kids and longtime Nintendo fans. And now, the sequel takes the story to a whole new level, like literally something even fans cannot stop talking about.

From what we can see in the trailer, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are leaving their familiar world behind to explore different galaxies inspired by the beloved video game.

The trailer confirms that the new movie picks up right after the events of the first one, where Bowser, still voiced by Jack Black, was shrunk down to miniature size. And yeah, it looks like he is still not happy about it.

Fans online are already buzzing about what kind of revenge plot he might cook up this time around, but as of now, we are excited to see what happens next in this intergalactic adventure.

The trailer gives us a first look at two exciting new characters that set the standards right away. Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson, and Bowser Jr., voiced by Benny Safdie, are both major additions to the Mario universe, and their introduction already has fans buzzing.

Of course, the main cast from the first movie is returning. Chris Pratt is back as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Princess Peach, Charlie Day is Luigi, Jack Black continues as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson returns as Kamek. With this lineup, we can expect plenty of humor, action, and nostalgia.

The film is directed once again by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who also led the previous movie. Matthew Fogel has written the screenplay, while Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo return as producers. As you can expect, the animation looks stunning, filled with color, energy, and small details that pay tribute to the original Super Mario Galaxy games.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released in the United States on April 3, 2026, and in Japan on April 24. Fans already know to expect more cosmic adventures, new worlds, and plenty of fun for audiences of all ages.

As of now, it’s clear that Illumination and Nintendo are doubling down on what worked the first time by giving us what we wanted.
