If you are a fan of period dramas, then you will definitely be excited to hear that a new TV series called The Forsytes, based on the classic novels by John Galsworthy, will be airing on PBS on March 22, 2026. The series follows a wealthy English family at the turn of the 20th century as it navigates scandals, shifting social dynamics, and bitter inheritance battles. Furthermore, it seems PBS is betting big on this intense family drama, as actor Stephen Moyer recently confirmed that the show has already been greenlit for multiple seasons.
Stephen Moyer excited for ‘The Forsyte Saga’ adaptation
This is not the first time that The Forsyte Saga has been adapted for the TV screens. The novels were first adapted for television by the BBC in 1967 in black and white. The saga was later adapted again for television by ITV in 2002, featuring Damian Lewis as Soames Forsyte and Gina McKee as Irene Forsyte, two central figures of the story. The upcoming adaptation will be the third retelling of the saga, with Moyer set to play the eldest patriarch, Jolyon Forsyte Sr., within the wealthy stockbroking dynasty.
In an interview with Page Six Radio, Moyer shared that the show has already secured additional seasons even before it has premiered.
“I have got a little bit of news for you guys, which is kind of exciting. And this is being broken here for the first time. It’s the first time I have even been involved in a show where not only did we get the second season pickup before the first season had aired, we got the season 3 pickup,” the actor said.
He further informed that the production for season three will begin in May. Interestingly, the new series will be slightly different from its previous iterations, starting earlier in the timeline and exploring relationships and tensions that existed before the key events of The Forsyte Saga. It is a reimagining of the saga rather than a strict retelling, allowing the writer to explore characters and storylines. The first season will be directed by Meenu Gaur and Annetta Laufer, while Debbie Horsfield is the showrunner and writer.
Safe to say, the spotlight will not remain solely on the wealthy London solicitor Soames Forsyte and his tensions with his wife, Irene Forsyte. Instead, the story will explore the broader generational drama of the Forsyte family, giving greater focus to several members of the dynasty.
