Marvel and Sony seem to be fighting a losing battle against leaks, and the latest victim of this is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Just a few days after leaked previews of Avengers: Doomsday in theaters went live on the internet, a grainy, low-quality video of an evidently unfinished trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day started to make the rounds on the social media circuit.
While the footage is barely discernible, the audio has already been sufficient to drive fans completely bonkers, mostly because it validates the rumored involvement of Sadie Sink—and not in a manner that anyone could have predicted.
One conversation that shattered six months of theories

Despite the grainy video quality, most insiders have stated that the footage appears to be genuine and was likely recorded at a private screening where videotaping is absolutely prohibited. The conversation, while fragmented and having inconsistently transcribed dialogue, still shows a strong emotional narrative thread for Peter Parker.
He introduces himself as someone whose time in the world is long past, referring to the tragic sacrifice he has made to save the world by essentially removing himself from it. This is a direct continuation of the isolated and reduced Peter Parker from the end of No Way Home, and it indicates that Brand New Day will indeed deal with the toll of being Spider-Man.
The most surprising element, however, is the threatening tone of Sink’s voice as a character. In this instance, it seems far more likely that she will be a villain or, at the very least, an antagonist, rather than a love interest or friend.
The one encounter between Spider-Man and Sink’s character has already turned the entire six months of fan speculation on its head, which had included everything from Gwen Stacy to Black Cat to a heroic mutant team-up.
The leaked audio recording also points to an interesting but packed cast. Familiar voices indicate the appearance of Tombstone, The Punisher, and Bruce Banner, who express surprised reactions to Peter as if they had never met before.
Familiar faces don’t mean safety anymore

This adds to the impression that Peter has nothing to start with, including when dealing with old allies, but is drawn back into a world of escalating threats. There is one rather tumultuous scene involving The Punisher dropping by in the middle of a brawl, hinting at a darker tone—at least on the surface.
But as theories rush to keep up, a far more obscure contender has emerged: Shathra, the cosmic spider-related entity from Marvel mythology. Of course, that would conflict with Spider-Man’s earthbound setting, but the foreboding, mythological undertones of the dialogue are indeed compatible.
The speed with which Sony has removed the copyrighted material from the web indicates that the company is taking this leak very seriously. Whether Marvel chooses to put out the trailer themselves or simply continue playing whack-a-mole with the leaks, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already done something very important.
It’s reminded people that Peter Parker’s next adventure will be more than just a new set of villains, but also about the consequences of being forgotten—and what happens when someone decides to use that to their own advantage.
