According to recent reports, SNL’s Colin Jost is officially in development on a new Peacock drama series where he will play Larry Lavin, a real-life Ivy League dentist who secretly ran one of the biggest c—— trafficking operations on the entire East Coast. Just days before the announcement, nobody had any idea Jost was even pursuing something this serious, and now he is attached to star and executive produce what could genuinely be his Breaking Bad moment.
Colin Jost says his SNL duties will not be affected by the Peacock project
The series is based on the first season of the Audacy true crime podcast Wolves Among Us, and the official description does not hold back.
“By day, Larry Lavin was a respected Ivy League dentist and family man, by night, the East Coast’s most elusive c—— k——. This series is inspired by the shocking and absurd true story of the suburban dentist who built a d—— empire behind the facade of the American dream.” Lavin was eventually sentenced to 22 years in prison on d—— charges and an additional 20 years for tax evasion back in 1986.
Alex Barnow, who ran all ten seasons of The Goldbergs, is writing and showrunning the series. Jost is executive producing through his No Notes Productions banner, which already has an overall deal at Universal Television.
The real-life Larry Lavin is also attached as a co-executive producer, which somehow makes this whole thing even more unhinged than it already sounds.
The project is still in development and has not received a full series order yet. If it does get picked up, Jost would not be the first SNL cast member to pull off both jobs at once.
Kenan Thompson did it with his NBC sitcom; Aidy Bryant did it with Shrill; and Cecily Strong did it with Schmigadoon.
So Jost balancing Weekend Update and a Peacock d—— drama is not exactly uncharted territory.
