Some roles call for drastic transformations, but Sarah Pidgeon’s case is totally different. For her role in FX’s Love Story, she had a Photoshop team. They helped transform her brunette hair to golden blonde for the show, as the actress revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She said:
My team actually photoshopped blonde hair onto me; I have very naturally dark hair. So I think that maybe helped with convincing production that this was the right move.
It is a common norm among actors to undergo modifications as a part of the process. Emilia Clarke dyed her natural brunette hair platinum blonde for her iconic role in Game of Thrones. Similarly, Sophie Turner dyed her naturally blonde hair to a mahogany red for the role of Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
For Pidgeon’s case, this norm didn’t fit into the idea of a honey-blonde character. It took several takes to get it right since the actress’s actual hair color is a darker tone.
Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s hair color is a soft honey blonde and is difficult to achieve with just Photoshop. It would be difficult to recreate it and convince the public as a result, as Brad Johns revealed. Johns, who is a professional celebrity hair colorist, revealed to Vogue that the Photoshop versions would look misleading.
Despite several attempts at photoshopping blonde onto the actress’s hair and wigs, the production team decided to dye her hair as a last resort. It is true, however, that the Photoshop move helped land Pidgeon her iconic role in Ryan Murphy’s series.
