Every time a favorite TV or movie actor passes away, the show is never the same. Euphoria is no stranger to this, especially after Angus Cloud’s death, which left people devastated, including Sam Levinson. The Director has now opened up on how the season paid a tribute to the late actor.
Sam Levinson on Euphoria Season 3’s tribute to Angus Cloud
Sam Levinson spoke to Variety during the premiere of Euphoria’s season 3 in Los Angeles. He opened up about the creative process behind recreating Angus Cloud’s presence and the show’s tribute to the late actor.
“There are a lot of scenes where people are talking to him on the phone. I thought if I couldn’t keep him alive in life, then maybe within the show I could keep him alive there. The whole thing was a way to honor him.”
Cloud played the role of the drug dealer Fezco O’Neill in Euphoria’s seasons 1 and 2. He acts as a close confidante of Rue and serves as a support system for her character.
Fezco remains a memorable character for most fans. He had a troubled childhood due to his father being extremely abusive. He was taken in by his grandmother, who protected him and nurtured him, albeit with his vices.
It was on July 31st, 2023, that Angus Cloud passed away at the age of 25. His cast mates, including Zendaya, Colman Domingo, and even the late Eric Dane, expressed their condolences over his passing.
What’s even more traumatic is that Dane passed away 3 years later due to complications following his struggle with ALS. He did film for Season 3, which now stands as his final performance in the role of Cal Jacobs, Nate Jacobs’ father.
Both Dane and Cloud played some of the major roles in Euphoria. Levinson even recalls meeting Dane before the latter’s death in the same interview, saying, “We had 28 cast members on Saturday for the wedding. There are all these people around, and he just showed up with such grace and dignity. He’s a consummate professional all the way through, and I miss him.”
Euphoria Season 3 will be available for streaming on Max on April 12, 2026.
