The Jura Tempest Federation is officially on its most ambitious course yet. In a press release dated the 15th of January, 2026, the production committee for ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,’ a hit series, has confirmed that Season 4 is not only on its way but that it is about to make history in the world of anime TV series.

Whereas in most anime productions, there are 12 or 24 episodes in a season, in the case of “TenSura,” Season 4 will be made up of five cours, meaning there will be a total of over 60 episodes. It is a very rare occurrence, but it is evident that there is a lot of confidence in the value of the story in this particular production. The first course will be a part of “FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT,” an improved version of “Nippon TV” in Japan.

A five-course show that reinvents the series

It seems that the plan for Season 4 will be more of a TV event than a yearlong anime series, at least in terms of production. The first two courses, consisting of 24 to 26 episodes, will be broadcast one after another from April to September 2026. The following three courses will be broadcast non-consecutively in 2027 and 2028 to ensure consistent animation quality.

It’s an extremely rare move that finds TenSura among a very select company. Very few anime series that are airing at this time are truly trying to achieve a presence such as this, which is so much closer to a series such as One Piece. For Eight Bit, it’s a return engagement that finds them again animating a series and doing so with a sense of continuity without sacrificing finish, which is an important aspect of looking at a series that is about to go on a very politicized and action-packed journey.

Regarding the time element, it is also quite intentional. Season 4 occurs only weeks following the second film in the franchise, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, which is set to release in Japanese theaters on February 27th, 2026.

The film also comes with new characters who are reportedly linked directly to the diplomatic/military conflicts that Rimuru finds himself in during the early portion of Season 4. As such, it is less of a sidetrack plot point and instead serves somewhat of a narrative ‘middle ground’ for the larger plot. Of course, none of this happens seamlessly without the film rights being owned by Crunchyroll globally. In terms of plot progression, Season 4 marks a stark difference in tone. The days of ‘meeting-heavy’ plots filled with ‘all things politics’ are a thing of the past for Season 3.

Instead, the plot moves at a lightning-quick pace with actual ‘nation-building’ on a global scale. Rimuru’s ‘Human-Monster Co-Prosperity Sphere’ starts taking actual form with global plot points such as global festivities, economic changes such as the Dungeon Project, and other global pressures from either the Eastern Empire or the Holy Knights. The playing field has leveled—from ‘theoretical’ to ‘global.’

It is indeed telling that the production committee has such confidence in the light novel series concluding by the end of 2025. As such, it is clear that the anime adaptation will cease stalling/stalling out plot development for the time being in Season 4.

The verdict: Reincarnated as a Slime has graduated from a successful ‘isekai’ anime to a ‘series’ that is well on its way to becoming a ‘series epic.’ As a five-part series, it marks a point where the ‘definitive series’ is soon to begin. As such, it marks a point where the ‘chapters’ of Rimuru’s series are being developed.
