Game adaptations are the new thing. Be it The Witcher or The Last of Us, these adaptations have been massive hits among audiences. The next to join the wave of adaptations is God of War, and it seems like the producers have finally found the perfect casting for Freya. But who is it? Let’s find out.

Sonya Walger cast as Freya in God of War live-action

For Amazon Prime Video’s God of War live-action, Sonya Walger has been cast as Freya. The series will be directed by Ronald D. Moore, and Variety confirmed Walger’s casting as of late.

The actress is popularly known for her roles in Lost, The Catch, New Life, and so on. Be it comedy or crime, she has acted in a range of different genres, and she was last seen on New Life as Elsa Gray.

God of War is developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio and happens to be one of the most popular action-adventure games. It is also one of the bestselling games for PlayStation.

Freya is Odin’s ex-wife and is a goddess of love, war, magic, beauty, and death. She is also the mother of Baldur, who will be played by Ed Skrein in the upcoming live-action.

As a Vanir goddess, Freya is also a strong shield maiden who helps protect her homeland along with other shield maidens. She fights against the army of Asgard.

The series will explore her journey as an exiled Queen, according to the logline posted by Variety that says, “When Freya’s unhappy marriage to Odin ended with her being exiled, she was cut off from her family as well as her native land, Vanaheim. Freya has lived alone in Midgard for a century, a recluse in a hidden glade, feared by humans, and often referred to as the Witch of the Woods.”

The Amazon Prime series features an illustrious cast. Ryan Hurst will play Kratos, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson will play Thor, while Mandy Patinkin will star as Odin. The God of War live-action television series is estimated to be released in late 2027 or so.
