The live-action One Piece is back with a second season that brings the Straw Hat Pirates closer to the Grand Line. Over eight episodes, the show introduces new islands, tougher villains, and higher stakes. By the finale, the crew finishes a massive fight on Drum Island and finds a new friend. However, the final moments also reveal a dangerous enemy who will lead the story moving forward.

Drum Island Battle Ends With New Crew Member

Beginning at the point where King Wapol and Drum Island defeated the last of the Straw Hat Pirates, who were under attack by King Wapol’s forces, King Wapol arrived with an army of soldiers and used his Devil Fruit abilities to transform his own body into a fortified structure to be able to protect himself from harm while simultaneously attacking the remaining Straw Hats and the people of Drum Island. The rest of the Straw Hats fought King Wapol’s invading force from the outside of Drum Island, defending the island’s people.

While the other Straw Hats battled King Wapol at the island’s borders, Luffy searched King Wapol’s castle, leading to a final confrontation in which Luffy and Sanji team up to deliver a crushing blow, sending King Wapol soaring through the air back to the mainland.

At the conclusion of this chapter of the story, Luffy asked Chopper if he would like to join the Straw Hat Pirates and become the new ship doctor. Chopper was torn over whether or not to leave his home and family behind to sail the seas with the Straw Hats, but ultimately decided to leave his life in Drum Island behind and joined the Straw Hats, who then set off for the Desert Kingdom of Alabasta to save Princess Vivi, completely unaware of the major challenges that lay ahead for them on their journey.

The Reveal Of Mr. 0

As we near the end of season two, the last big surprise occurs in the final episode, where we see Mr. 0, the enigmatic head of Baroque Works, for the first time. For most of the season, Mr. 0 was unknown, remaining a background character while other characters were developed. The actor playing Mr. 0, Joe Manganiello, would portray the infamous pirate Crocodile in the live-action series.

Unlike your average villain, Crocodile is not simply seeking to take down Luffy. Instead, he is working from behind the scenes to control the entire operation of Baroque Works. He plans to seize control of the desert nation of Alabasta and use its power to uncover a long-hidden secret.

Additionally, the reveal confirmed that his partner, Miss All Sunday, is, in reality, Nico Robin, who is currently on the run as one of the world’s most wanted pirates. Together, they plan to execute the next phase of their plan called Operation Utopia.

At the conclusion of Season Two, several different groups are traveling towards Alabasta: the Straw Hat Pirates and several Marine officers, both of whom have received orders to capture the Straw Hats. As such, this establishes the premise for a greater conflict in the next chapter of the story.

Now that Crocodile has come out of hiding, the stage is set for a huge battle in the upcoming season.
