One Piece isn’t your usual pirate story. It’s got action, adventure, friendships, mystery, betrayals, and so much more. The anime has around 1155 episodes, and the manga is ongoing. This brings us to the question of the hour: how many seasons will the One Piece live-action really have? Well, the showrunners pretty much answered it.
One Piece showrunners on the series’ fate
One Piece live-action showrunners Becky Clements and Joey Tracz spoke to IGN about the series’ success. They also discussed the fate of the live-action series and how many seasons it would truly have.
When asked if 16 seasons was truly a goal, Clements said, “Well, that is again, me being the most aggressive and most optimistic. I think we almost feel like we’ve already broken through season eight, and then we can figure it out from there.”
Honestly, 20 whopping seasons sound like a lot considering the gap between each season, and the cast also spoke about this earlier. They would probably be in their 80s by the time the show reaches season 20, but that’s not the case here.
For the future arcs, the producers would likely have to skim through and fit in all 33 arcs. It’s a lot of work, and this is where Clements and the staff made major changes to the storyline. They introduced Brook, Sabo, and Bartolomeo early on in the Second Season.
Season 3 will focus on the Alabasta Saga, an arc most anime fans have been eagerly waiting for. The second season was a banger in terms of its casting, storytelling, visuals, music, and the creative process in its entirety.
What makes One Piece live-action so good is that the series actively involves Eiichiro Oda in the production process. They make changes to the plotline; however, for the most part, the creators and showrunners remain faithful to the manga.
One Piece live-action is widely regarded for its use of cutting-edge filmmaking technology and craftsmanship. It isn’t just actors but an entire creative team that replicates the elaborate worldbuilding of Oda’s manga through their finesse. Netflix’s One Piece live-action Season 3 is currently scheduled for release in 2027.
