Netflix is officially turning One Piece into a LEGO animation series. This week, on April 7, the streamer announced their new two-part animated special. It is supposed to be a LEGO retelling of the live-action events, filled with jokes, humor, and chaos, and the kind of exaggeration fans associate with Usopp. The special is set to premiere on September 29, 2026, serving as a fun break between seasons 2 and 3.
What happens in LEGO One Piece? Retelling of the events in Usopp’s style
Rather than reproducing the events of the live-action episodes as they are, LEGO animation focuses on Usopp as a storyteller who narrates events to Tony Tony Chopper. As such, one can assume that every battle, every escape, and even the most dramatic scenes will be made funnier in this retelling of the Straw Hat Pirates’ adventures.
The two-part animated series is based on the events of seasons 1 and 2. Thus, the series is set to retell not only the original East Blue storyline but also the second batch of adventures of the crew that is yet to happen within season 2.
This animated series is being created as a joint effort of Netflix, The LEGO Group, Shueisha, and Tomorrow Studios.
Animation is created by the team of Atomic Cartoons, who also work on other projects such as Hilda and The Last Kids on Earth. Attached as writers and showrunners are Tom Hyndman, and the production team also welcomes the involvement of author Eiichiro Oda, who works as an executive producer.
The animated series will also help promote the growing line of One Piece LEGO toys. Its first wave was released on August 1, 2025, with some key locations being represented, such as Arlong Park, the Going Merry, and the 3,402-piece Baratie restaurant.
The second wave of the toy line will be released on August 1, 2026, and the most notable among them is a 482-piece set depicting Gum-Gum Fruit and revealing Luffy finding the latter.
Future rumored sets include the Drum Island Castle, Little Garden, and Loguetown. They might have an important role within the upcoming live-action season 3, known as “The Battle of Alabasta.”
