Pop star beefs are more common than you’d think. Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter are no exception to this, especially when it involves a messy love triangle. The Good 4 U singer recently cleared the air between her and Carpenter, and here’s what she had to say.

Olivia Rodrigo clears the air about Sabrina Carpenter

In a conversation with British Vogue, Olivia Rodrigo addressed the feud between her and Sabrina Carpenter, saying, “I think she’s great. I’m so happy for all of her success, too. I love the album she’s put out.”

It all started in 2021 when Rodrigo released the single “Driver’s License” from her album SOUR. The song was a reflection of a painful and devastating breakup, but what stood out were these lines in the song.

“And you’re probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt. She’s so much older than me, she’s everything I’m insecure about.”

Netizens were quick to comment on this, and they speculated that it might be Sabrina Carpenter. There were rumors of Carpenter and Joshua Bassett dating in 2020, but some sources suggest that the pair broke up in the following year.

Before that, Bassett was dating Rodrigo, which led most people to believe that the song was directed at Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter also wrote a song, Skin, and released it in 2021. The line, “Maybe you didn’t mean it, Maybe blonde was the only rhyme, The only rhyme,” had people ruling the whole issue out as a feud.

On June 27, 2025, Sabrina Carpenter attended Rodrigo’s concert at Hyde Park, London. It was a way of clearing the air, but fans remained skeptical nonetheless.

Rodrigo also commented on people’s abrasive comments: “I can’t believe people were that mean to me. I was going through a break-up, working a full-time job, making [Sour], a student in high school, and taking, like, three AP [college-level] classes. Looking back, I always think, ‘Wow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17.’”

Carpenter and Rodrigo are cordial at present, and they even shared a hug at the 2025 Grammys. Both artists are working on their respective projects; Sabrina is currently touring as part of Lollapalooza, while Rodrigo is working on her next album.
