The biopic on the King of Pop, titled Michael, is expected to hit theaters on April 24, 2026. The upcoming biographical film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, has been produced with the full cooperation of the Michael Jackson Estate, with Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, playing the lead role. In a recent promotional run for the film, Nia Long, who portrays the mother of the late music icon, Katherine Jackson, suggested that the upcoming biopic might have a second part.
Long hints at part two of Michael Jackson’s biopic to his brother
Entertainment Tonight caught up with Nia Long to discuss her role in the film. In the midst of the discussion, Michael Jackson’s brother, Marlon Jackson, cut in to appreciate her for portraying his mother on screen.
“I want to say that you did a great job playing my mom,” Jackson told Long. Thereafter, the interviewer asked Marlon how strong the bond between Jaafar and Nia was in the film, and he replied, “I thought that she was so calm… I really appreciate what you brought to the screen.”
Furthermore, Long stated that she wanted to meet Katherine Jackson in person, but refrained because of how “personal” the project was for the Jackson family. Further discussing how expressive Nia Long was in her portrayal of Katherine, Marlon interjected to say, “You know about slippers that know how to turn corners,” at which point she immediately whispered in his ear, “That will be in part two.”
Reportedly, the initial, extensive cut of the movie exceeded three hours, leading producers to consider breaking the project into two parts to cover the entire storyline. The story is likely too expansive for a single film, and therefore, there may be a need for a multi-part narrative covering different phases of the global pop icon’s life.
Nevertheless, members of the Jackson family, especially his brothers, have publicly supported the film and seem quite content with how it has turned out. However, it must be noted that they do not have control over the creative aspects of the film, and their involvement is mainly through the estate and consultation.
