The galaxy has just become a more treacherous place. The latest teaser for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ has finally revealed the major threats that Din Djarin and his young apprentice face as the film prepares for its May 22 theatrical release. This time, the threats are certainly bigger, as the focus shifts from individual missions to a much larger conflict involving the New Republic.
Teaser reveals a galaxy-wide threat with iconic villains
Perhaps the biggest reveal comes with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who now takes the place of the major villain. Grand Admiral Thrawn, with his renowned intelligent mind, seems to be uniting the fragmented Imperial forces, as the focus shifts from small-scale missions to a much larger conflict threatening the galaxy.
A standout scene also sees Rotta the Hutt as an adult, which is a surprising Easter egg to the Clone Wars era. Rotta is no longer the helpless infant fans are used to seeing but is instead depicted as a physical behemoth in a gladiator-style fighting pit. Rotta is voiced by Jeremy Allen White and appears to be in a brutal fight scene with Din Djarin.
The teaser has also sparked interest in Warlord Zsinj, with fans speculating that Jonny Coyne’s enigmatic imperial officer is a possible live-action incarnation. Quick glimpses are seen of him commanding an Imperial fleet of Star Destroyers, which suggests that they are possibly working with, or in opposition to, Thrawn’s larger plan.
The underworld is not quiet either, with The Twins’ return possibly meaning that the Hutts are fighting for dominance again, possibly with Imperial forces to reclaim their former glory. Compounding this is Embo, the beloved bounty hunter, who appears to be hunting Grogu in his signature fighting style.
The movie, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise.
