The Narnia film trilogy is something most 90s kids grew up with. It is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece and seems like we won’t be getting enough of it. There’s a prequel to the trilogy, and reports suggest Meryl Streep might be joining the adaptation.

Meryl Streep’s Narnia role confirmed in interview

In an interview with La Repubblica, Emma Mackey discussed her role in the upcoming movie Perfectly Imperfect. She also shed light on working with Meryl Streep in the upcoming Narnia movie.

When asked if she could reveal details about the Narnia movie, she said, “Not much. It’s just exciting. The subject is very familiar all over the world, and it was also a big part of my childhood. Plus… (laughs) I’ll be acting with Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, and Carey Mulligan.”

The interview confirmed Streep’s role in the Narnia movie. It is unclear as to what role she would potentially play. What we do know is that the movie is directed by Greta Gerwig. Mackey will play the role of the White Witch, while David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell will play the roles of Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, respectively. The story is a prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

It follows two children, Polly and Digory, who witness the birth of Narnia because of magical rings that allow them to travel between worlds. While they witness Narnia’s rise, they also unknowingly slip into the evil White Witch Jadis.

Gerwig is an acclaimed director known for her blockbuster movie Barbie. She also directed Little Women and Lady Bird and is praised for her complex, strong yet flawed characters. It would indeed be fascinating to see the Director at the helm of this fantasy movie.

As for Meryl Streep’s role in the movie, there were several rumors of her playing Aslan. The recent reports thwarted this claim and confirmed that she won’t be playing that role. She is currently working on Useful Idiots and an upcoming Joni Mitchell biopic.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled for release on 26th November 2026.
