However, new information is beginning to surface, and it is painting a much more vivid and detailed picture of Sadie Sink‘s mysterious part in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and if the most recent information proves true, she may find herself at the epicenter of the new direction the film is taking.
Sadie Sink, according to industry insider DanielRPK, is not just another love interest for Peter Parker, but rather finds herself in a relationship with Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, played by the same actor, Jon Bernthal. The pictures of Sadie sporting tactical gear and camouflage have led many fans to speculate that she may actually be portraying the part of Rachel Cole-Alves, a former Marine who becomes the apprentice of the Punisher after her family was murdered by a criminal organization. If this is the case, she would instantly be set up as a moral opposition to Peter Parker, as a person who uses deadly force would instantly go against the moral code of the Spider-Man character, who does not kill.
Rumored to be a Punisher protégé with mind-control powers
The biggest surprise, though, is that mind control powers are included. According to DanielRPK, “Sadie Sink’s character will reportedly have a close relationship with the Punisher in ‘SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY.’ She will also mind-control Liza Colón-Zayas’s character during a fight sequence involving tanks.” Colón-Zayas is rumored to be playing a police officer named Cathy, who may be a placeholder character for Jean DeWolff, an important character in the Spider-Man franchise.
It is understandable that rumors are floating around that Sink’s character may be a mutant, possibly even Jean Grey. However, rumors are floating around that “Jean Grey” and “Shathra” are simply rumors meant to throw fans off the scent of Marvel’s actual plans. The more logical explanation is that Marvel has created a character that has Rachel Cole-Alves’ character traits and looks, but gives her telepathic powers so that she can smoothly transition into the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is rumored to be set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Spider-Man is working anonymously in a New York City where Mayor Wilson Fisk is in charge. Should rumors of Sink’s character be true, it looks like she may be the wild card that redefines Spider-Man’s new era.
