Grammy Award-winning American performer Megan Thee Stallion’s Broadway run came to an abrupt halt. She fell very ill midway through her performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York. Reportedly, she made her Broadway debut on March 24, 2026, in the musical.
Broadway show stopped midway due to Megan’s sudden deterioration in health
The incident happened on March 31 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York, when the rapper was taken immediately to the hospital after she felt “very ill” during her Broadway show performance. She played Harold Zidler in the Moulin Rouge musical and was notably the first female performer to take on the role.
According to media reports, Megan was on stage to perform a couple of scenes when the show was halted midway. During the pause, the audience was asked to stay seated while an understudy stepped in for Megan to continue the performance.
“During Tuesday night’s production [of Moulin Rouge! The Musical], Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available,” the statement further read.
“Everyone, say a prayer for Megan; we are all at the hospital,” the performer’s hairstylist wrote on X.
In February, Megan announced that she would be making her Broadway debut in the show, and her run was planned as a limited engagement till May 17, 2026, beginning from March 24. The role marked a major career pivot from music and film to live theater.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor,” Megan said in a statement. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively, and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.”
Broadway is physically demanding, to say the least, and it is quite unfortunate that she fell ill less than a week into her Broadway journey. Certainly, the incident raises concerns about the performer’s health, and her continuity in the Broadway musical remains in doubt. Hopefully, Megan Thee Stallion’s medical checks do not reveal anything alarming, and she can take to the stage again after a full recovery.
