The American rapper Megan Thee Stallion fell ill midway through her Broadway performance in Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York on March 31, 2026. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, and the show continued with an understudy stepping in after a brief halt. The performer has now shared an update on her health following the hospitalization.
Stallion needs a day’s rest before returning to the Broadway show
In an Instagram post, the global hip-hop sensation stated that she had been pushing her body to its limits, and that her recent hospitalization was a “wake-up call” for her. She recounted that she felt like she was going to “faint” during her performance, and she wanted to push through her discomfort but couldn’t.
“Last night was a real wake-up call for me. I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance, but I just couldn’t,” she wrote on Instagram.
She further stated that she needed a day’s rest to reset before continuing with her stage performance for the musical. “I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been.”
She also confirmed her return date to be April 2, 2026, and promised that her comeback would be “stronger” and “clearer.”
“I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve. Thank you for always riding with me and loving me through everything,” she concluded.
The artist made her Broadway debut on March 24, 2026, and her shows are planned as a limited engagement until May 17, 2026. She plays Harold Zidler in the musical and is the first female performer to embody the role.
Fortunately, the medical checkup did not reveal anything alarming, and she can get back to performing on stage. The role underscored a major shift toward live theater from music and film. It would have been unfortunate if we couldn’t see her full potential being utilized in her pivot to Broadway musicals. Now, fans can look forward to seeing her hold the audience’s attention again at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York.
