Marvel may be finally willing to acknowledge what fans have been realizing for some time now: Wonder Man works. Marvel Studios is reportedly very close to officially greenlighting Wonder Man Season 2, according to industry insider Daniel Richtman. Honestly, it feels earned. What began as one of the most unexpected Disney+ shows out there has become one of Marvel Television’s most successful and refreshing shows in recent years.
The show, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams/Wonder Man, concluded its eight-episode first season in January 2026. The show received an overwhelmingly positive response. It was deemed Marvel’s smartest show since Loki. However, what made this show special is that it did not seem to care that it was supposed to be a “typical” Marvel show. There were no multiverses. There were no sky beams. There were only themes of identity, insecurity, creativity, and the absurdity of Hollywood—superpowers included.
Marvel Signals Confidence at Wonder Man
Simon isn’t trying to save the world. He’s just trying to survive it. He’s a struggling actor with godlike powers living in an industry where those with powers are forbidden to perform. He feels painfully human despite his godlike powers. And then there’s Trevor Slattery. Ben Kingsley’s reprisal as the washed-up actor-turned-unlikely-mentor was the heart of the show. Their relationship was the emotional center of the entire season.
One of the boldest decisions was the restraint. There was only one major fight scene all season long. And it didn’t feel like the writers were holding back—it felt like they trusted their characters to do the heavy lifting. That seems to be paying off at just the right time. Marvel is rethinking their Disney+ approach now that Brad Winderbaum is at the helm. And the studio seems to be moving towards more creator-driven content. With shows like Daredevil: Born Again and X-Men ’97, Wonder Man seems to be the model for Marvel’s television arm.
While there’s been no official word about the future, between the accolades, awards talk, and the season finale’s cliffhanger ending, Season 2 seems more inevitable than ever.
