Who would have thought a movie that has a very simple and self-explanatory plot would go so far that it would create Oscar buzz? The global sensational Netflix Movie KPop Demon Hunters has officially crossed the line from a hit movie to a full-blown cultural takeover, and the latest news circulating around Golden Globe nominations has got fans and audiences pretty much excited.

Everyone at this point is eager to see whether the film will be able to score these three major nods, which include Best Animated Feature, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Best Original Song for “Golden.”

For those who haven’t watched the movie, the track is performed by Huntr/x (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami) and is written by EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, DO, 24, and Teddy, which has officially created a milestone moment for the awards.

EJAE is now said to be the first Korean American artist to be nominated for a Golden Globe, and if “Golden” ends up winning, it will definitely carve out a new chapter in Globes history and for the songwriters, as well as the performing artists.

Even though all the songs of this movie are known to be very catchy and took the world by storm over TikTok as well as on Instagram Reels, the song “Golden” is said to have a tough road to victory.

Golden” is up against a stacked lineup that kinda makes you jitter your teeth. The nomination list also includes “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, “I Lied to You” from Sinners, two tracks from Wicked: For Good, and “Train Dreams” from the film of the same name.

But at the same time, the Best Animated Feature category, “KPop Demon Hunters,” is seen as the favorite. Although it too has competition, which includes Arco, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and the latest Disney sequel hit, Zootopia 2. But to be very honest, awards watchers are already putting their faith in the Netflix juggernaut of this year.

And honestly, the entire confidence comes from the film’s explosive run since its June debut. It didn’t just perform well; it became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. Its soundtrack followed the same path, turning into a chart machine with “Golden,” “Your Idol,” and “Soda Pop” all landing spots on the Billboard Hot 100.

Golden” went even further with a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year, proving that the movie’s music has become its own cultural force. This level of success helped the film secure a nomination in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, where it sits alongside massive titles such as Avatar: Fire and Ash, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Wicked: For Good.

Despite already being a streaming giant, the film has surprised everyone with its theatrical performance. Even Netflix rolled out a special sing-along version in theaters during fan events in August and October.

The first weekend brought in around $18 million in just two days, and the Halloween screenings pulled another $5–6 million. Frankly, these numbers are even more impressive considering the film had been available online for months. And no matter what happens, there is a sheer faith and hope from the fans that they might take away all the titles this time at the Golden Globe Awards.
