Kpop Demon Hunters achieved groundbreaking success since its release, and its glory isn’t going anywhere. The sequel is in the works, and the producer has also hinted at the plotlines of the upcoming film. Here’s what viewers can potentially expect from the sequel.
Michelle Wong hints plot for Kpop Demon Hunters 2
KPop Demon Hunters’ showrunner Michelle Wong is all prepped for the sequel. She recently shared her plans for the sequel and even hinted at the storyline behind the sequel in an exclusive interview with The Direct.
When asked about the characters she wishes to expand upon in the sequel, she said, “I mean, for me, I’d like to explore Mira and Zoey’s background and where they come from. Or even Derpy. More about Derpy and Sussie’s relationship.”
While the first film focused on Rumi’s backstory as a half-demon, it teased Mira and Zoey’s dynamic with their families. Their past has been speculated by fans over the course of time.
Mira is a sassy, sardonic, yet rebellious member of the girl group HUNTR/X. She is adept at choreography and dart throwing and is a skilled demon hunter. Her complexity is what makes her a memorable character.
Similarly, Zoey’s naivety and her tendency to people-please are recurring themes in the film. It also stems from her wish to belong and fit in. It is heavily speculated that her parents are divorced; however, it hasn’t been expanded on as of yet.
As for Derpy and Sussie, these two are benevolent spirits who are contrasting personalities; one is chirpy, while the other is feisty and sarcastic. Both complement each other and add substance to the film as a whole.
Each character serves a purpose and exists as a force and not merely a plot device. The film sustains mystery about these characters’ backstories by dropping hints, but there’s one thing we know. It would be delightful for most fans to see these characters’ backstories fleshed out and explored in great detail.
