Keanu Reeves is known as Hollywood’s nice guy. Most of his roles, including The Matrix, John Wick, Speed, and The Lake House, have seen him play characters with strong moral codes. However, in his upcoming film Outcome, directed by Jonah Hill, he will be seen portraying a morally grey character. In a recent interview, Reeves revealed how he approached playing a mega-famous Hollywood actor with questionable ethics.

Keanu Reeves says it was “fun” playing an ethically challenged character in Outcome

Outcome is set to premiere globally on Apple TV+ on April 10, 2026. The feature-length movie had its world premiere on April 6, 2026, before its streaming release. While on a promotional run for the movie, Entertainment Tonight caught up with the Matrix star to discuss the upcoming movie.

In the movie, Reeves plays Reef Hawk, a Hollywood actor whose carefully curated image starts to crumble after a blackmail video from his past surfaces. When asked if he had fun playing the character, Reeves replied, “Yeah, he’s kinda post d—, we have a little bit of those, little bit of that. But, it was really fun.”

Reeves’ co-star in the movie, Jonah Hill, who plays Ira Slitz, a crisis lawyer for Hawk, stated that the whole movie hinges on his performance. “The whole movie hangs on his performance. It’s a stunning, he won’t say this, he’ll go like ooh, but it is a stunning performance,” Hill said.

However, this is also not the first time that the John Wick star will be playing a shades-of-grey character. In movies like The Devil’s Advocate, Man of Tai Chi, and The Gift, he has played dark characters, and it will be safe to say that he does have experience in portraying negative roles.

It will be interesting to see Reeves play against type and portray a flawed and narcissistic celebrity who is facing an existential crisis. Even the audience would be intrigued to know how a guy who usually plays do-gooder action heroes will fare in a role where he has to own up to his past mistakes and resulting public scrutiny.
