It appears that The Last of Us Season 3 is now gearing up, and fans have something to look forward to. Kaitlyn Dever, who portrays Abby, has announced that she is now preparing to get back to work, and this indicates that the next season is about to start.
In an interview with Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever confirmed that she is currently in prep mode, both mentally and physically. Moreover, she is about to get back to work within the next couple of days.
Kaitlyn Dever teases bigger Abby focus
“I’m getting mentally and physically prepped right now. I go up in a couple days, actually, to start prep over there. I’m so excited to kind of take on a much bigger role in the season,” she said.
In addition to that, Kaitlyn Dever confirmed, “The fans are really going to like it, I think, the shifting perspective onto Abby, getting some more context onto her storyline and going back in time with this season. So, I’m very excited for the fans to see it.” This is quite similar to the game The Last of Us Part II, where fans get to see the perspective of Abby. Fans of the game are definitely going to love this, as this will essentially take fans back in time.
This is the most prominent production note to date regarding Season 3. Previously, HBO announced that production was to commence in 2027. However, it was not clear when production would commence until now. Dever’s statement suggests that production will soon begin, as hinted by the show’s co-creator, Craig Mazin, that Season 3 will be filmed at a different pace and will have more episodes than Season 2.
The last scene in Season 2 was a cliffhanger as Abby confronted Ellie at a theater in Seattle. Jesse was killed, and Tommy was taken hostage before the scene went black with no resolution.
There are several actors who will likely reprise their roles in Season 3. These actors are Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy.
The third season will be produced with a new shift in the show’s production, with Neil Druckmann, a co-creator of the game and a key player in the production of the first two seasons, stepping back from writing and directing, although remaining a co-creator and EP. Halley Gross, who co-wrote The Last of Us Part II, will no longer be a part of it.
For now, HBO has not revealed if the third season will mark the final chapter of the series. What is certain, though, is that the story of Abby is set to take the spotlight, and fans are advised to get ready for another emotionally brutal ride.
