Joe Rogan has never been one to compete for trophies, and so when the Golden Globes announced their first-ever award for Best Podcast, Rogan was quick to point out that he had no interest in entering, for what he claimed was simply a submission fee of $500.

In a recent episode of his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan was discussing all of the rumors surrounding why his incredibly popular podcast did not receive a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. According to Rogan, however, his podcast did not receive a nomination because he did not submit his podcast for consideration.

Joe Rogan shrugs off Golden Globes snub

“A lot of people say, ‘Why wasn’t Joe Rogan nominated for the Golden Globes? Why did Amy Poehler win?’ I didn’t submit,” Rogan said on the show. “They asked me to submit to be nominated for the Golden Globes, and you had to pay $500. And the $500 is like for paperwork or whatever. I said, ‘No’’” Rogan explained. “I don’t want to be a part of that.” He brushed off the idea that the fee was about the money, saying it was more about principle than cost.

What Rogan was obviously opposed to was the idea of his podcast being considered for an award by some group or organization and then subsequently being awarded a trophy for their efforts.

“I just know that I didn’t submit. I don’t want to be a part of that. I don’t care. You’re just a group of people that just decide, all of a sudden, that you’re going to give an award out? ‘I get a trophy? ’”

“You can’t tell me I didn’t win. I’ve been number one for six years in a row,” Rogan said. “All of sudden, you’re going to have a contest in front of all these people wearing tuxedos and you’re going to say Now I’m not number one? F— off — I don’t care that I’m number one, but I am, in fact, number one.”

While Rogan was technically eligible for consideration, his show didn’t make the cut for the six finalists. However, Amy Poehler took home the first podcast award for her show Good Hang. The news didn’t go over well, and it sparked a lot of debate on social media.

While Rogan didn’t take a shot at Poehler, it’s clear that he understands the frustration that his fans may have. He explained that it’s a typical situation for awards shows to have celebrities’ names involved. “That’s what they do,” Rogan explained, kind of dismissing the situation altogether. However, Rogan explained that the reality is that his show has been the No. 1 show on Spotify for five years running. He also explained that his show was No. 1 on Apple Podcasts and YouTube in 2025.

Other popular podcasts, including The Megyn Kelly Show, have allegedly declined to compete for the award. The nominees for the first podcast award include SmartLess, Armchair Expert, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and Up First from NPR.

For Rogan, it’s clear that he doesn’t need to compete for an award to know that his show is the best. He explained that he doesn’t need to don a tuxedo and compete in a room full of people to know that his show is the best. He explained that his fans click play every week, and that’s what matters.
