Jimmy Kimmel found a brand new source of humor for his monologue on February 2, as he concentrated on Fox News’ response to Melania, a documentary based on Melania Trump. Jimmy Kimmel ridiculed the idea of the movie being a contender for Oscars, based on a statement made by Fox News personality Kayleigh McEnany.
Jimmy Kimmel took a jab at Fox News using his signature sarcasm. He said he would make a return to the Oscars stage if Melania Trump were nominated for an Oscar.
Jimmy Kimmel mocks Fox News for suggesting Melania deserves Oscar
“Mark my words right now, if ‘Melania’ gets nominated for an Oscar, I will host that show.” Jimmy Kimmel’s joke elicited a round of applause from his studio audience. “Whether they ask me to or not. I will insist on it.”
However, it also reflected Kimmel’s disbelief at Fox News’ and other people’s perception of a documentary as a legitimate movie. Kimmel, who has hosted the Oscars, continued making fun of Fox News and other people’s perception of a documentary. He made a joke about how Melania Trump receives a “7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes” (as of 2 Feb) but a unanimous “100%” positive review on Fox News. Kimmel has consistently made jokes about how political affiliations affect people’s perceptions.
This, of course, wasn’t the first time that Kimmel had spoken out against the film. In fact, before it had even been released, Kimmel had already spoken out about it, dismissing it as an extravagantly funded vanity project whose intent and timing were both suspect. During his latest monologue, however, Kimmel went a step further, speaking out against the film’s $7 million opening weekend and sarcastically calling it a “record setter” for something else entirely.
Kimmel’s monologue also brought back memories of his last time hosting the Oscars, back in 2024, a year that had been made memorable due to his confrontation with the POTUS. During his monologue, Kimmel had paused long enough to read a social media post in which the president had viciously attacked his job as an Oscar host. Rather than avoiding the subject altogether, Kimmel had decided to confront the attack head-on and make it one of the most talked-about moments of the entire evening.
Conan O’Brien is set to host the 2026 Oscars, and it is clear that Kimmel’s monologue wasn’t really an attempt to get his job back. It was, however, an “insistent” reminder of just how closely entertainment, politics, and satire are all related.
