The Boys is ending with Season 5 on April 8, 2026, but the universe it built is not going anywhere. Vought Rising, the prequel spinoff set in the 1950s, has just wrapped its first season, and Jensen Ackles is already talking about what comes after it.
Soldier Boy Is Back and Multiple Seasons Are Already the Plan
Ackles posted a video on Instagram on March 11 announcing that Season 1 had wrapped production in Toronto. “Final day of filming, Vought Rising, Season 1,” he said in the clip, showing fans a behind-the-scenes look at getting into the Soldier Boy costume, which takes a team of three to five people to put on.
He thanked the cast and crew and called them all “a bunch of psychos,” which is the kind of energy the show was clearly going for.
The more interesting update came separately in a Collider interview. Ackles confirmed that Vought Rising was pitched to him as a multi-season project from the beginning.
“I think the intent is to do multiple seasons,” he said. “When they pitched it, they were like, ‘Hey, we’re thinking about doing this prequel thing, going back to the 1950s with Soldier Boy.’”
He also told Deadline that in Vought Rising, he is “the top dog,” which is a very different situation from The Boys, where Soldier Boy spent most of his time frozen in a government facility.
The show is a twisted murder mystery set around the origins of Vought-American and the early days of Compound V. Aya Cash is back as Stormfront, then going by Klara Risinger.
The rest of the cast includes Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, Will Hochman as Torpedo, KiKi Layne, Cecily Strong, and Mark Pellegrino.
There is also a Supernatural reunion in there somewhere. Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins filmed scenes with Ackles in Toronto, though Prime Video has not confirmed what characters they are playing.
Paul Grellong is showrunning with Eric Kripke producing it. The Boys: Mexico, another spinoff starring Gael García Bernal, is also in development from Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
The franchise is expanding in multiple directions at the same time, even as the original show wraps up.
Vought Rising does not have an official release date yet. Late 2026 is possible depending on post-production. Early 2027 is also realistic. Either way, the show is done filming, and the Boys universe is not finished yet, not by a long shot.
