To say Hannah Montana is popular would be quite an understatement. The show itself stands as one of the most iconic Disney series of the 2000s. It also had its fair share of controversy, which included Jason Earles lying about his age. The star recently opened up about this.
Jason Earles’ bluffing game for Hannah Montana role
Jason Earles appeared on the podcast named Best of Both Worlds. There, he opened up about fooling the producers about his age, “I was desperately afraid that I was going to be fired and recast because I had a big secret. When I auditioned for the show, I lied to them and told them I was 18 years old.”
He was actually 28 years old at that time. It was by the eighth episode that the producers eventually found out his real age. He also revealed that he was married at the time he bagged the role. The actor kept his age as well as his married life a secret.
He was all about secrecy and privacy until the executives busted him for lying. They asked him if there were any more secrets they should know of. He also told the producers he didn’t have kids at that time.
The producers then decided to go ahead with this lie for a few more years. Miley Cyrus was around 13 years old at that time, while Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso were 14 years old. He also revealed that no one would play into the lie that he is a 16-year-old in the show, which makes sense.
However, he came clean about his age and was accepted by the producers eventually. He recently launched the unofficial Best of Both Our Worlds podcast for fan Q&A, though it isn’t confirmed if he’ll return for the 20th Anniversary Special.
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ on 24th March.
