Antoine Fuqua’s film Michael will star Jaafar Jackson as the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson. However, there’s a sense of discontent between Janet and Jermaine Jackson over the upcoming film.
Janet and Jermaine Jackson’s discord on ‘Michael’
As reported by TMZ, Janet and Jermaine Jackson argued about their brother Michael’s biopic. This happened over a call, as some sources suggest. This happened shortly after the Jackson Family did a private screening of the film. Page Six confirmed the news later on.
Some sources also claimed Janet Jackson’s disappointment regarding the film was due to her jealousy. That she envied Jermaine Jackson; however, no public statements were made. This circles back to her accusing Jermaine, in turn, of being jealous of Michael’s fame.
Back in 1991, La Toya Jackson spoke about the Jackson family’s rifts in her book La Toya: Living With the Jacksons. In her memoir, she also mentioned the harsh upbringing that the Jackson siblings underwent, which shaped their careers as entertainers.
She spoke about her brother Jermaine’s jealousy in the light of Michael Jackson’s growing fame. This was an interview from the 1980s that has resurfaced recently.
Jermaine Jackson left Jackson 5 in the 1970s, while Michael Jackson left the band in 1984. They focused on their solo careers, and after a decade or so, MJ was crowned the King of Pop. The upcoming biopic has fans stoked up for the most part, but it has also received criticism.
Aside from Janet and LaToya Jackson, Paris Jackson felt a sense of discord with the upcoming movie. In her Instagram stories, she called out the film for its inaccuracies and said: “The narrative is being controlled, and there’s a lot of inaccuracy, and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is scheduled for release in April 2026 and will star Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson.
