After Peacemaker’s breakthrough success and IMDb ratings, James Gunn is back with Lanterns. The series is scheduled to premiere in August, but what’s even more exciting is the ring design shared way ahead of the trailer.
James Gunn’s Lanterns reveal exquisite ring designs
James Gunn’s Lanterns is all set to take over the internet for good. The DC series stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Of late, HBO shared designs of the power ring way ahead of tomorrow’s trailer. They posted a teaser on Instagram that gives viewers a short glimpse of what’s to come.
The social media post was captioned, “The ring says you’re ready. #Lanterns teaser tomorrow.“
What’s so unique about the power ring is that it features the iconic Green Lantern logo along with a spiral design carved intricately in the center. The sides are embedded with green crystals that emit and radiate green light. James Gunn also posted two comic book covers on his Instagram. These features are both Hal Jordan’s and John Stewart’s. The post caption stated, “Their legacies continue.”
Lanterns follows the story of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who are out on a mission to investigate Earth’s mysteries. The Green Lanterns are a part of the intergalactic police force and usually reside on the planet Oa.
While Jordan is an experienced cop, Stewart is a recruit who works and trains under him. The Green Lanterns use power rings that are made of rare minerals, including Oanite. These are further fuelled by a person’s willpower that allows the wielder to utilize the ring’s potential to the max.
The dynamic between Jordan and Stewart reiterates the student-teacher trope. This pop culture dynamic has resonated with readers and viewers across the globe. It would be interesting, indeed, to see how the entirety of it is fleshed out.
Furthermore, the show also features seasoned actors like Nathan Fillion, who is known for his iconic role in Castle. He is set to play the role of Guy Gardner in the upcoming DC series.
So far, the cast and trailer look impressive and promising to some, while others are calling it a bit dull.
