Druski’s whiteface skit, which was a satirical take on Erika Kirk, went viral online and subsequently dominated headlines. Certain political commentators and media outlets called the skit r—-. Now, in a recent podcast appearance, YouTuber Jake Paul has expressed interest in doing a blackface-themed skit as a response to the comedian’s viral parody.
Paul has been calling makeup artists to prepare for blackface-themed skit
In a conversation with Theo Von on his podcast, This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von, Paul stated that he wanted to level the playing field by doing a blackface-themed skit. He added that he has been making calls to makeup artists who could help bring his idea to fruition.
“I’ve been, over the last couple of days, calling, um, makeup artists, and I was gonna do a response to this and go, like… full-on,” said Paul. Immediately, Von prompted, “Darker?” and Paul replied, “Yeah. And just do it back. Because why not? Like, are we on the same playing field?”
Sensing that it is a sensitive topic, the comedian urged Paul to have “Black support” before putting out the sketch. “I think there needs to be some Black support for the character… If you got one of those guys [like Druski or Charles Barkley] to be like, ‘Hey… I want you to do this skit with me. Let’s do this.’” To this, Paul interjected, saying, “Still, that is p—- [if they won’t].”
Elaborating on his point, Paul stated that releasing the skit while partnering with Black creators would make it “prejudiced,” as he implied Druski didn’t ask for permission before dropping his viral parody. Moreover, he said that he loved Druski’s skit, adding that people should be able to make fun of each other regardless of their skin color.
“We should f—– make fun of each other, and I don’t see in color. I see in truth and comedy,” Paul stated. Certain critics argued that there is a false equivalence in Paul’s argument, noting that Druski’s skit was aimed at power politics, while a blackface-themed skit carries harmful and offensive implications rooted in historical injustice.
