Jack Black already knows precisely which character from Red Dead Redemption 3 he wants to play, provided the highly anticipated sequel ever sees the light of day. During an interview while promoting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the actor admitted that he wishes to become another historical personality who bears his name—outlaw and wanderer Jack Black.

Jack Black says the “other” Jack Black belongs in Red Dead Redemption

As Jack Black told Polygon, the original Jack Black used to be a notorious hobo, burglar, and prison escapee during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Later, he published his memoirs titled You Can’t Win in 1926, wherein he described his experiences as an outlaw before realizing that being an outlaw did not bring him happiness.

For some reason, the actor believes that Jack Black’s story matches the general theme of Red Dead Redemption perfectly, as all the games in the series deal with the death of the outlaw era and the struggle of the heroes to survive in a time when the old American West is vanishing.

The fact that Jack Black played one of the major protagonists from RDR only adds to the humor of the situation. However, according to Black, the plot is interesting in itself and is perfect for a Red Dead Redemption story because there is some meta-casting going on, and it involves real-life events.

What’s more, You Can’t Win had influenced numerous writers, including William S. Burroughs, whose works share the dark and pessimistic style typical of the RDR series. Thus, Rockstar can easily incorporate Jack Black’s appearance into its game since, if Red Dead Redemption 3 becomes a reality, it might include the early 20th century.

However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, as Rockstar Games is working on Grand Theft Auto VI, which will premiere on November 19, 2026. Meanwhile, although Red Dead is now a “permanent franchise,” no news about the upcoming RDR 3 has yet surfaced.
