A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wrapped its first season on February 22, 2026, and HBO has already confirmed Season 2 is filming. Started in December 2025, wraps in June, and is on track for a 2027 premiere. The annual Game of Thrones schedule is holding.

Season 2 Is Already Deep Into Production

HBO renewed before Season 1 even aired. That’s how confident they were. Season 2 is The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella. Same format. Six episodes. Dunk and Egg are on the road again, no dragons, no Iron Throne.

The Season 1 numbers made the decision easy. 6.7 million US viewers in the first three days, the third biggest series debut in HBO Max history. By the finale, it was averaging 14 million per episode in the US and 26 million worldwide.

Most visited page on IMDb in February. The Hedge Knight graphic novel hit the New York Times bestseller list the same month.

94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show worked because it was small. Two guys walking through Westeros, getting into trouble. No wars, no politics, just Dunk trying to be a good person and Egg getting them both into situations.

That simplicity after three seasons of House of the Dragon scheming is what people responded to.

Showrunner Ira Parker said Martin gave him outlines for twelve unpublished Dunk and Egg stories. HBO’s current plan only covers the three published novellas. Parker wants to adapt all twelve eventually. That’s potentially fifteen seasons of this show if everything goes right. Nobody is calling that a sure thing, but nobody is saying no either.

House of the Dragon Season 4 is slated for 2028. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2027. HBO has a Westeros show every year through at least 2028, and the schedule is holding.

Season 2 wraps in June. 2027 is on track. For a Game of Thrones spinoff that’s basically a miracle.
