The HBO original series The White Lotus has been receiving rave reviews, earning multiple Emmy Award nominations and wins. The critically acclaimed satirical drama has already been renewed for Season 4 and is likely to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027. Recently, actor Haley Lu Richardson, who played the popular character Portia in Season 2, opened up about what her arc could look like if given a chance to return.
Richardson wishes her character would seeks help from therapist
Haley Lu Richardson played the directionless young assistant, Portia, who seeks excitement and wild adventures over stability and purpose. She is emotionally restless and struggles with relationships. Emotional confusion and poor decision-making seem to be the running themes of this character, and Richardson recently revealed to Variety what she wanted for her arc.
If given a chance to return, the actress stated that she wanted a redemptive storyline for Portia, who could begin to get a grip on her inner chaos by seeking a therapist.
“If Portia came back—and more just what I hope for her somewhere in the ether—I hope that she’s found more resources that are supportive for her and for her mental health. I hope she found a therapist,” she stated.
Furthermore, she wanted Portia to spend more time alone rather than feeding a desperate need for romantic entanglements. She also wished that Portia found a job she genuinely enjoyed and could pursue with passion.
“I hope she maybe took some time to be alone and not be dating. I hope she found a job that brings her joy, where she really feels like she’s thriving and finds some passion. You know, I care about her,” Richardson added.
However, the possibility of her return is highly unlikely, considering the format of The White Lotus, which features a new cast, location, and story each season. There are no continuous story arcs carried over, as the plot revolves around different groups of wealthy vacationers and hotel employees at a new White Lotus resort every time.
