Halloween has always been more than a night of costumes and candy. It is the one time of the year when we choose to open the door to fear, inviting it to sit beside us in the dark. As fans, we have all been waiting for what feels like an eternity for the season to come when we can stay up late, turn the lights off, and escape into the stories that scare us. However, instead of watching the same old films, there are some amazing ones hiding in plain sight.
5. Hush (2016)

It is directed by Mike Flanagan and features Kate Siegel. Hush presents a crisp turn to the home invasion plot. Maddie, a deaf writer who lives alone in the woods, is pursued by a masked killer. Deprived of sound, she can only trust her instincts to survive the night.
4. Session 9 (2001)

Another cult classic that remains dear to fans of atmosphere and tension is Brad Anderson’s Session 9. The movie was filmed at the actual Danvers State Hospital in Massachusetts, and it revolves around a team of people who are hired to clean up the asbestos in an abandoned mental institution. As they delve deeper into the history of the place, they experience the walls closing in on them.
3. Ravenous (1999)

The movie is directed by Antonia Bird and takes place in 1840s California. The plot revolves around a disgraced soldier, Guy Pearce, who is exiled to a distant mountain outpost. A stranger, Robert Carlyle, joins him, claiming that he has survived by consuming human meat. What happens next is a gripping and unpredictable journey of survival, hunger, and the price of ambition.
2. The Empty Man (2020)

Based on the plot, an ex-cop goes in search of a missing teenager, which leads him into a cult obsessed with the Empty Man. Essentially, the mythology becomes more real when people give it credence.
1. Incantation (2022)

Directed by Kevin Ko and produced in Taiwan, Incantation initially succeeded in the local box office before spreading to international viewers. Based on a found-footage style, the movie revolves around Li Ronan, a mother who tries to shield her daughter from the curse that was released years ago when she and her friends explored a prohibited tunnel.
