Timothée Chalamet’s comments on ballet and opera have taken the internet by storm. Many celebrities and artists responded to them, including Doja Cat, but it seems like there was more to it. The singer apparently admitted to baiting fans over the recent controversy.

Doja Cat’s ‘virtue-signalling’ over Timothée Chalamet’s comments

Doja Cat, in a new TikTok video, retracted her statements about Timothée Chalamet’s ballet comments. She said, “I’ve never been to a ballet. I’ve never seen an opera. And I took it upon myself yesterday to kind of give it to the man because there is a culture based around outrage and things like that, and people want to feel like they’re part of something. It’s a need to connect, whether good or bad.”

The singer previously responded to Chalamet’s comments about ballet and opera. The Dune actor stated he doesn’t wish to work on “dying art forms” and stirred controversy, and netizens were quick to clap back.

Doja Cat also gave her opinion on the whole matter, saying opera is 400 years old while ballet is 500 years old. The clip attracted a range of responses, mostly from fans who praised her clapback. Of late, she said she knew nothing about the form. The video was a way of virtue signaling. She also added: “I wanted to connect, and I knew that Timothée’s goof-up was something that I could leverage in order for people to connect with me and f— with me.”

It is interesting, indeed, how this played out because now netizens are also juxtaposing her comments with the controversy. The singer observed likes, clicks, and engagement as a part of a common culture.

The whole situation gave her a leeway to garner support, as she mentioned in her latest clip. The response to this was met with encouragement from netizens. They appreciated Doja’s self-awareness and insight into the matter. Truly, the Timothee Chalamet controversy served as a space to bring artists, be it singers or dancers, together. It also visibilised artisans and craftsmanship that goes behind the scenes when it comes to performance.
