Well, this year’s Thanksgiving box office turned into a major celebration, and it’s because of our beloved duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia 2. Disney did make sure to go all big and extra to meet the hype that the previous Zootopia did for all of us, and it’s safe to say it blew past them with a massive $156 million opening in the U.S.

And since its global release, the movie has made more than a staggering $400 million overseas, which brought its global launch to an astonishing $556 million, earning the title of the biggest worldwide opening ever for an animated film and placing it among the top four openings for any Hollywood release in history.

The Movie Delivers True Crowd-Pleaser Family Entertainment

Fans and audiences clearly showed up for a story that made sure to mix humor, heart, and sharp world-building, and critics responded just as enthusiastically. With an A CinemaScore and a 95 percent audience approval rating, the film tapped perfectly into the demand for big, crowd-pleasing family entertainment.

But that is not all, because internationally, if you see the box office story, it has grown even more dramatic. According to the reports, China delivered the single largest animated opening the country has ever seen, with $272 million, surpassing every non-Endgame debut on record. The Zootopia sequel also posted the highest Saturday earnings in history, proving that the enthusiasm for the franchise is still very much adored and loved.

With these numbers, it’s almost guaranteed that Zootopia 2 is headed straight for the billion-dollar club, something the first film achieved with half the domestic opening this sequel just delivered. Disney’s leadership praised the global response, calling it a celebration of both the studio’s creative team and the wide cultural love for Judy and Nick’s world.

And there is no denying that the month of November has been a blast when it comes to movie releases and the expectations that were set for all of us. While Zootopia 2 dominated, Wicked: For Good continued its strong run after opening one week earlier. The film, led by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, pulled in another $93 million over the holiday period, pushing its domestic total past $270 million and nearing $400 million worldwide.

It’s already outpacing the original Wicked movie in several key categories and stands as one of the strongest musical adaptations at the global box office.

And for the rest of the holiday slate, it delivered mixed results as well. Specialty titles like Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet enjoyed a promising limited launch, while Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery played selectively due to theatrical windowing disputes. Meanwhile, holdovers such as Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and Predator: Badlands continued adding steady numbers, with Badlands officially becoming the highest-grossing entry in its franchise.
