Disney’s live-action adaptation of the popular animated movie ‘Tangled’ is reportedly moving forward in a big way. The studio behind the movie has announced that the live-action adaptation will start filming in June 2026, with the movie set to spend eight months shooting in Spain before moving to the UK. The studio has also announced that it has finalized the lead cast for the movie, giving fans a glimpse of what the final movie will look like. The update for the live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled’ has become one of the most significant pieces of news from Disney this month, especially since rumors of the movie’s production have been circulating for a long time.
Inside Disney’s Massive ‘Tangled’ Production
The upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled’ will reportedly spend most of its time shooting in Spain, where the studio plans to build the Kingdom of Corona using real locations instead of relying on CGI. It plans to build the Kingdom of Corona in the regions of Valencia and Burgos, giving the movie a more realistic look.
The news from Disney marks a significant shift for the studio, especially since there have been complaints that the studio’s live-action remakes look too artificial. This eight-month production will also make Tangled the longest production for Disney’s live-action remake, beating The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.
Disney has also finalized its lead actors following a series of screen tests in London. Teagan Croft will be playing Rapunzel in Tangled. This news has caught many by surprise, especially since Elle Fanning and Florence Pugh were rumored for the part for quite some time. Teagan is known for her role in Titans and will now be playing one of Disney’s most loved princesses.
Croft will be starring alongside Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn has also been officially confirmed for the role of Mother Gothel. This news, confirmed following Kathryn’s social media post earlier in the month, has been approved by many Disney fans.
As for the crew, Michael Gracey will be directing Tangled, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson penning the script. With production commencing in 2027, Disney is already planning for a summer 2028 release.
