While Cillian Murphy has worked across various genres, he is mostly celebrated for his role as Thomas Shelby in the Peaky Blinders. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he opened up about his future with the famed series.
Cillian Murphy spills beans on Peaky Blinders’ fate
Be it Oppenheimer or Intermission, Cillian Murphy proved his caliber as a multifaceted actor. Nothing, however, beats his iconic role as Thomas Shelby in the British historical crime series Peaky Blinders. Of late, Murphy has appeared in Taylor Swift’s music video. While this is a win-win for the actor, he happened to shed light on his fate regarding Peaky Blinders.
When asked by Entertainment Tonight whether this was a closing chapter or a beginning, he said, “I think the universe of it will continue, if the fans or if there’s more story to tell, yeah, sure. But it’s not really up to me.”
Murphy was at Birmingham for the premiere of his movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The film is a continuation of the series, and it showcases the comeback of the actor in his legendary role.
It focuses on the aftermath of events carried out in series. The tone is set in the 1940s during World War 2, where Shelby must face the consequences of his actions and unite with his gang.
Whether or not Murphy will reprise his role in possible sequels is uncertain. As mentioned, it completely depends on the directors and the source material.
Aside from Peaky Blinders, the actor did a brief cameo in Taylor Swift’s music video Opalite. He also appeared in a cameo role in the movie 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. He is also the executive producer for the 28 Years Later franchise.
Other than that, there are several fan speculations regarding his casting as Voldemort in the Harry Potter series. This was after Ralph Fiennes suggested the actor as a perfect addition to the series. His observation was spot-on, though Murphy himself quashed the rumors, eventually.
